Jim Shumate, Business Executive

Jim Shumate, Business ExecutiveJim is a high energy, dynamic and creative C-Level executive experienced in medical devices and pharmaceuticals, Internet services, and service industries. He directed both domestic and international sales and marketing. As COO at an Internet marketing and software development firm he was responsible for sales, marketing, finance and personnel.

His operations expertise comes from developing systems in start-ups and turnarounds. He successfully engineered the building of a 35 person department and developed national and international sales for a $35 million medical device company. He participated in an Initial Public Offering of stock and spearheaded raising funds for expansion of a software development firm.

Jim approaches business as a game with a winning team needed to be successful. He has a great sense of humor and enjoys helping people succeed.  He was one of the first business coaches for the ActionCOACH franchise and helped build many of the systems they use today.  He created the Executive Team Training program and co-authored the Business Effectiveness System guidebooks for building a business.

He knows how to make a marketing program successful. He builds marketing and sales systems and implements them so the sales and marketing teams can perform at their peak. He has hired, trained and managed over 500 sales reps in his career. His marketing programs maximize budget efficiencies and achieve remarkable returns. He works well with R&D understanding the clinical and regulatory side as well as the needs of the market.

Jim knows the medical products field from top to bottom and brings over 25 years of medical equipment marketing, pharmaceutical marketing, and medical device marketing experience to the table.  The chief marketing officer in medical product start-ups and turnarounds means you have a medical marketing consultant who knows the ropes and can help you right away. Add in his knowledge of Internet marketing and you have a winning combination.

Jim has introduced products in pharmaceuticals, medical devices including implants and OTC devices, surgical systems and instruments, office capital equipment, and over the counter products. Corporate positions include Chief Operating Officer, VP Sales & Marketing, VP Sales, VP Marketing, Director of Marketing,Product Manager and Sales Representative. He started and managed his own consulting businesses: Cherry Street Results (ActionCOACH) and Niche Marketer. He worked for Allergan Pharmaceuticals, Barnes Hind -Hydrocurve, Optical Radiation Corporation (ORC), DgR Inc, Optical Micro Systems (OMS), Essilor of America (Essilor Technologies) and PuriLens in the medical products field. He was COO for Rapid Web Services (TheSSLStore.com) and was one of the first 20 business coaches in the states for ActionCOACH.
Jim supports the charity Nehemiah’s Village by donating his time to fundraising efforts.  
Memberships and Education

Jim is a past board member of the American Advertising Federation – Tampa Bay; member of the Northeast Exchange Club known for the annual Ribfest charity event; former member of the Medical Marketing Association and Chairman of the International Awards of Excellence; president of hisBNI chapter; and Toastmasters International. He served as a judge for the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business of the Year Award multiple times and is a frequent lecturer at the Entrepreneurial Academy. He was on the board of a local soccer club, represented all soccer clubs in St. Petersburg for park planning, is a nationally certified soccer coach and referee. Jim is a Certified Professional Behavior Analyst certified by Target Training International, Inc. and a Certified Business Coach and Consultant. He is a graduate of California State University, Fullerton with a B.A. in Communications. He worked his way through college at Disneyland, found time to letter in Cross Country, Track and Field, and was the Sports Editor of the daily campus newspaper.
